Bring your own AI
Bring your AI Companion to Waypoint.
Connect a supported AI service to your Waypoint workspace and ask meaningful questions about the customers, work, tasks and finances you are already authorised to see.
What needs my attention today?
Based on the Waypoint information you are permitted to access:
- Two tasks are overdue.
- One prospect follow-up is due today.
- Three completed jobs are waiting for their next action.
Which customers need a response?
What work is overdue?
Which stock items are running low?
This conversation takes place in the supported AI service you connect, not in a chatbot built into Waypoint.
Your preferred AI environment
Use the AI service you already prefer.
AI Companion is not simply a chat window added to Waypoint. It lets you connect a supported external AI service to your workspace, giving it controlled access to useful business context while you continue using the AI environment you already know.
Waypoint supplies the structured, permission-controlled context. The external AI remains under your control, and connections are introduced and verified individually rather than claiming compatibility with every provider.
Why the connection matters
AI becomes useful when your business information is connected.
Generic AI does not automatically understand the state of your business. Waypoint connects the operational journey behind it, so authorised questions can be answered from dependable context rather than information assembled by hand.
Notes, document metadata, stock and finance each require their relevant Waypoint permission and explicitly authorised scope. Document file contents are not returned.
Practical questions
Ask for the view you need.
Available answers depend on the connected user’s Waypoint role, authorised scopes, workspace features and record visibility.
My day
- What needs my attention today?
- What work is overdue?
- Which tasks are assigned to me?
Customers
- Give me the available context for this customer.
- What work do we currently have open for them?
- Are there any outstanding tasks or payments?
Work and finance
- Which jobs are ready to begin?
- Which customers are waiting for a response?
- Which completed jobs still need an invoice?
Stock and readiness
- Do I have enough stock for the work coming up?
- Which items are running low?
- Which jobs are waiting for recorded materials?
Financial information is returned only when the connected user has the appropriate Waypoint permission and has separately authorised the finance scope.
How it works
A connection for one user and one workspace.
A supported AI service does not gain general access to Waypoint. Each connection is authorised for a specific user, workspace and set of read scopes.

- 03Authorise

- 04Ask

Access and control
Useful access without giving up control.
Permission checks are made again whenever the AI asks Waypoint for information. Changing a user’s access or revoking the connection changes what remains available.
- Access is read-only: the AI cannot create, edit or delete Waypoint records.
- Existing Waypoint roles, permissions and record visibility continue to apply.
- The AI cannot see information that the connected user cannot see.
- Access is limited to explicitly authorised scopes and can be revoked independently.
- Requests are subject to security controls and a separate audit history.
- Financial information requires additional permission and separate authorisation.
- No write scope exists and AI Actions remain disabled.
Compatibility
Designed to remain provider-neutral.
Waypoint is being developed so businesses are not permanently tied to one AI provider. Compatible services are introduced and verified individually.
Supported read-only connections
AI Companion Read is available with active Waypoint plans. Supported connection availability is confirmed during access and onboarding.
Not the same as public support
A service may be technically tested before Waypoint names it as an officially supported public connection. No universal compatibility claim is made.
Verified one service at a time
Additional compatible services can be introduced after their connection, product requirements and support position have been confirmed.
A compatible third-party AI service is required. Availability and any AI-provider subscription requirements are determined by the chosen provider.
Planned capability
Read today. Act only with explicit permission in the future.
AI Companion currently provides read-only access. Future action capabilities may allow supported AI services to create or update selected records, but these will be a separate, planned add-on with explicit authorisation—not something enabled automatically by an external AI setting.
Connected context
Give your AI the business context it has been missing.
Bring your customers, work and finances together in Waypoint, then connect a supported AI Companion to help you understand what needs attention.
